'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McLeish praises O'Connor

It won`t be long before Garry O`Connor is back in the Scotland squad according to Birmingham boss Alex McLeish.

The player had just been omitted from George Burley`s squad to face Northern Ireland in a friendly and then he turned in a man of the match performance against Wycombe on Wednesday.

McLeish hailed O`Connor`s performance and is convinced he will soon be back on the international scene.

Speaking to the club's official website, McLeish said: 'If O'Connor keeps playing at the level that he's at now, then he'll get back into the Scotland squad, no problem.

'I was very disappointed that he couldn't get a goal out of his performance against Wycombe because he certainly deserved one, but he made a great contribution and looked sharp.

'I've said to him that I know George hasn't included him in the Scotland squad, but he just has to please me. If he does that I think he'll walk into the Scotland team because he has all the attributes, and George said that he'd bring the experienced players back for the World Cup qualifiers.'
