Well, can you?
It`s the sound of Blues finally clicking together.
A nigh on perfect first half performance sealed a more than comfortable victory over Ipswich Town. For the first time this season, it can be successfully argued that Blues played their opponents off the park.
From the off, Blues looked threatening, and while Ipswich sat back, Blues were given free license to move the ball around the pitch. A combination of good passing and width, provided by both the wingers and fullbacks, meant that Blues always had numerous options when looking to move the ball.
The confidence from two comebacks in a row was clear for all to see, and Blues took a ninth minute lead through a sweetly struck Liam Ridgewell shot. After the ball bounced around in the area, RIdgewell found himself six yards out, unmarked, with the ball dropping at his feet. He hit the ball perfectly across the keeper and into the corner.
Think that was good? Even better was to come.
With Blues passing the ball around elegantly, and Ipswich looking all but defeated, Seb Larsson broke down the right hand side and put in a sensational ball met with an equally fantastic header from that man, Super Kev, to put Blues 2-0 up. The skill by Larsson to evade the onrushing Ben Thatcher on the half way line was sublime, and the cross was perfect. Phillips made a brilliant late dash into the six yard area and he met the ball with a strong header, leaving the keeper with no chance.
Ipswich heads dropped, Blues players and fans were sent into ecstasy, and from here on in it was nothing more than a training session for the Blues.
A series of attacks followed with slow, measured build up play, which was met with a resounding response from the crowd, who got right behind the team.
After half time, Blues seemed to lose their impetus, possibly because the team felt that they had already done everything that was needed. While Ipswich enjoyed spells of possession, they were never threatening, and their late goal from Alex Bruce came with more than a touch of good fortune as Maik Taylor slipped as the corner came into the area, leaving the Blues number 1 stranded.
All in all, it was a good performance from Blues. The first half was possible the best performance by a Blues team so far this season. This has set the team up perfectly with the visit to Molineux to come in less than a week. High on confidence, this Blues team can do anything, and that includes going to Molineux and teaching the Wolves a footballing lesson!
Looking at the team, there were good performances by Queudrue, Quashie, and Seb Larsson. But even while I feel that Quashie and Larsson had their best games of the season, they were both superseded by James McFadden. The Scot opened his bag of tricks and used the all to good effect on a night when he was the main man.
Another day, another victory, another boost of confidence, and off to Molineux we go...
