'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Same mistakes wont be made again

Birmingham chairman David Gold has insisted Birmingham will never suffer from anymore off-field problems that he believes cost them their place in the Premier League the last time around.

Blues had problems with a takeover bid by Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung who became the club`s leading individual shareholder, but stopped short of becoming the club`s new owner with a full buy-out.

It is believed that Steve Bruce ended up leaving the club because he could not obtain guarantees from Yeung about a new contract and player funds.

This won`t be happening this time around insists Gold who has made it public that manager Alex McLeish will have funds available for the new season.

Gold said: "The thing that got us relegated last year was the takeover and we will never allow that again. The failed takeover got us relegated.

"We have learned from that. I wish I had been stronger and firmer at times. We will never do anything like that again to put our football club in any jeopardy.

"No-one is perfect. You do your best. But if you take our record overall as a board, it speaks for itself. There is no question I have made mistakes."
