Blues address left back problem

Former Liverpool defender Gregory Vignal has been signed by Birmingham City after impressing Alex McLeish while on trial.

With David Murphy being out injured, Blues have a problem with the left back spot which is why the manager has acted to fill the void.

Vignal arrives at St Andrews on a twelve month contract with the option of another year should the club decide to take it.

And it`s not the first time Vignal has worked under McLeish; the Frenchman was at Rangers when the Blues boss was in charge there.

'He's a good athlete, he's mobile and he's strong and aggressive,' McLeish told the club's official website.

'He played a season with me at Rangers when we won the league and it was a very successful campaign for him then, so I know what Greg can bring us.

'I've kept in touch with him and his family and I know he's been bursting over the last couple of years to get back to the top league.'
