McLeish Praise For Carr

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is very pleased that he talked Full back Stephen Carr out of retirement and he doesn`t mind letting the player know.

Carr was retired from the game last February but McLeish made him a decent offer and the 33 year old helped Blues back into the Premier League with some impressive displays.

Now Carr is virtually an ever present in the team and the boss believes he is now invaluable to the team as they attempt to stay in the Premiership.

McLeish said: 'There is no doubt Stephen has been a really tremendous acquisition for us after plucking him from nowhere when he had announced his retirement.

'His defending has been first class and he has been terrific for us and his experience is also valuable. Stephen is a quality performer.

'He very rarely loses a challenge in the air at the back post, but has also shown a fantastic capacity to get up and down the pitch.

'I have been absolutely delighted with what he has brought to us since coming here.'
