McLeish On Spurs Draw

McLeish On Spurs Draw

Alex McLeish felt Birmingham fully deserved their point earned from the game that they drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a late goal from Liam Ridgewell.

Another defeat looked on the cards as Blues entered time added on a goal down thanks to a strike from Jermaine Defoe, but Ridgewell had other ideas when he headed home the equiliser from close range.

And after the game, manager Alex McLeish thought back to the game that his side lost dramatically at White Hart Lane in August and told Sky Sports News: 'Now Harry knows how I felt."

'We got a wee bit of revenge today despite not being near the quality we have shown in the last three months.'

'We had to go for broke,' he added.

'We told James McFadden to stay forward rather than doing a workmanlike wide role. We let him go and tried to keep Chuco (Benitez) and Cameron up as a front two.

'I thought we started to look a bit dangerous. I think Chucho looks dangerous when you get the ball into him in the box. He has made a lot of goals for us, with fantastic lay-offs.

'I feel for him that he hasn't got a goal here yet at St Andrews, but maybe he just needs to put his laces through the chance he had in the first half. He was dangerous and I think the team appreciate him.'
