Ferguson Wants Advice From McLeish

Ferguson Wants Advice From McLeish

Barry Ferguson may be about to make a bid to get back into the Scotland national squad, but he will be seeking the advice of manager Alex McLeish first.

Boozing led to Ferguson and former Scotland boss George Burley falling out and the player was removed from the international scene.

But current manager Craig Levein is now offering Ferguson a way back into the fold and although the player is 32, it may be a big temptation, hence the meeting with McLeish.

Ferguson told the Daily Record: 'I still have a lot of thinking to do and I am nowhere near making a final decision.

'I am fully committed at present to Birmingham City. I want to give them a full season because they took a chance on me when people were knocking me down.

'There is a lot for me to take into consideration so far as internationals are concerned and it will take me a long time to decide what I am going to do.

'When Craig was appointed I said he was the right guy for the job and he is probably the only person I would consider coming back to play for in the future.'

He added: 'I have to sit down with Alex McLeish because if it means that I go away on international duty and not play for Birmingham when I come back there is no chance of coming back,' he explained.

'He is a guy I respect and he has given me time to go away and consider all my options.'
