Chucho Wins Praise From McLeish

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish was full of praise for striker Christian Benitez after he put in an inspired performance that helped Blues turn the tables on Portsmouth and run out 2-1 winners on Tuesday night.

Benitez was a pain in the side of the Portsmouth defence all night and although he did n could have been amongst the goals if he had just had a little more time to put the ball away after rounded David James on 39 minutes only for a last ditch intervention from Hermann Hreidarsson to deny him.

'I thought Chucho had lost a bit of confidence in the last few weeks. He had an injury and perhaps wasn't feeling quite his best,' said McLeish.

'The players were finding it difficult to find him on the pitch and he wasn't getting into any of the little pockets he had been looking dangerous in during the early part of the season.

'He came on last Saturday and I think he got a wee lift from his performance. He created a bit and he looked very dangerous tonight.'

I've been very impressed with him. Probably should score a little more, but his overall play this season has been excellent.
