'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McLeish Happy Things Went To Plan

Blues manager Alex McLeish was pleased that his work on the tactic board with his players paid dividends as they drew with Liverpool at St Andrews on Sunday.

McLeish installed it into the players to act with an air of caution and despite going a goal behind to a Steven Gerrard strike, they pulled the game back with a fine move that ended in Liam Ridgewell scoring the equaliser.

Speaking to the club`s official website McLeish said: 'We were organised and it was a little bit tactical in the first half.

'There was a kind of slow rhythm to the game, we got bodies behind the ball and it was difficult for Liverpool to penetrate.

'If you go chasing them, they can pick you off and their form has been very good recently, so we've been mindful of that.

'It was pretty tight with the midfield doing a superb job in front of the back four, with Roger Johnson and Scott Dann marshalling Fernando Torres pretty well.

'Liverpool had to come and try and beat us and we didn't allow them to get that space.

'I've been delighted with the players' performances at St Andrew's this season, including the two games that we lost.'
