ENG-er-LAND

Release Date – 12th June 2006

England Supporters Band to launch fans’ anthem for World Cup

The England Supporters Band has thrown its hat onto the pitch with its own World Cup song. “ENG-er-LAND (Sing Along With Me)” is a 2006 version of the James classic “Sit Down” and will be launched live to football fans around Old Trafford this Saturday before being launched as a digital download on Monday 12th June. This is a song featuring The England Band that will be playing at every match.

The late entrant has been rewritten by James’ lead singer Tim Booth to provide England fans with an anthem and show the nation’s support to the team prior and during the 2006 campaign.

Only the England Supporters Band will be allowed to play instruments at the team’s games so “ENG-er-LAND (Sing Along With Me)” will be the only England World Cup song to be played live at all their matches.

Singer, songwriter and fanatical football fan, Don Sebastiano has provided vocals for the track and is the ideal choice to fire up fans and crowds on Saturday and throughout the tournament.

The idea kicked off when the brainchild behind the track, Chris ‘JNR’ Rodgers suggested the England Band played the song at the recent friendly between England and Uruguay. Backed by the 15-strong band, the 40,000 strong crowd took the classic to their hearts and gave it their full support every time it was played.

Inspired by its success and in order to provide the nation with an easy to sing anthem throughout the World Cup, the Band worked with producers Chris ‘JNR’ Rodgers / Pete Ibsen and Tim Booth to rework the track and came up with a tune for the terraces that could be sung for the team.

The track was Executive Produced by Rick Blaskey at Sanctuary Music and Media Partnership. Rick was responsible for the likes of “3 Lions,” “Swing Low” and many other music and sport related campaigns.

Producer, Chris “JNR” Rodgers said, “This song is true to the game - it’s by fans, for fans. The England Supporters Band is going to be at all the matches and is looking forward to making this the England song and giving the boys a big lift. The Band is looking forward to playing it for the first time on Saturday and giving the crowd something to sing.”

The England Supporters Band will be playing its World Cup song, “ENG-er-LAND (Sing Along With Me)” from an open top bus around Old Trafford this Saturday from 3.30pm.
