Blues In Race For Zigic

Birmingham City turn out to be one of the clubs leading the chase to sign giant striker Nikola Zigic for around 6 million from Valencia.

The Serbian stands at 6` 8" tall and would make the perfect target man for the Blues who have also been trying to sign West Ham`s Carlton Cole and Fulham`s Bobby Zamora as manager Alex McLeish is very keen to bolster his front line.

But Blues face competition for the 29 year old from the likes of Aston Villa, Tottenham, Blackburn and Sunderland.

McLeish said: "There`s a lot of interest in Zigic, 10 or 15 clubs have called me about him but I think they have been shocked by the money wanted by Valencia.

"He has always said he would be interested in a move to England and if he was to go there it would have to be the right club that understands his characteristics."
