Maik Extends Contract

Birmingham goalkeeper Maik Taylor has put pen to paper on a new one year deal with the club.

The 38-year-old Northern Ireland international extended his deal by 12 months, he has been with Blues for six years.

Manager Alex McLeish told the club`s official website: 'He is nearing the age of 40, like David James, but he is in superb condition.

'I need Maik to drive Ben on in training along with Dave Watson.

'Maik has almost got to be like a trainer as well and I can also see him becoming a future coach.'

Maik has stayed on 2 years too long now and when he eventually leaves he won't be thought of as a 'good servant'. He is seriously hampering the development of Colin Doyle whom is a fantastic keeper but would not be at all surprised if he hands in a transfer request. Losing a player of Doyle's ability will be a major blow to us and I think this will be a decision McLeish will regret.

If he is that good why doesn't he go out on loan for the experience. Be good for both parties.

Colin Doyle is a fine keeper and it can only be a matter of time before he wants out for first team football somewhere
