Attempts To Get Deal Back On Failed

There is speculation that Charles N'Zogbia tried to get Birmingham to make another move for him on transfer deadline day after he had turned the club down a few days earlier.

An offer of around £10 million was accepted by Wigan last week only for talks between the player and Blues to break down as they could not agree on wages.

Now it is reported that he tried to get the deal back on late in the day with the man who played a big part in arranging the deal, Paul Montgomery, letting Blues know he was still interested.

But if any pleas were made to resurrect the deal, they fell on deaf ears because Alex McLeish was busy signing up the likes of Alexander Hleb, Jean Beasejour and Martin Jiranek.

McLeish said: 'I had already moved on, swiftly, to the other deals. I didn't want to waste any more time because it's happened in the past in the transfer window when you mess about and losing even a couple of hours can be crucial.'
