Blues midfielder Barry Ferguson has ended months of speculation by reiterating his decision to not make a comeback to the Scotland squad.
Craig Levein is set to pick his squad for the Euro Qualifiers and Ferguson has acted to make the Scotland`s boss job easier.
Ferguson says a combination of what had gone before, his age and playing his football in the Midlands had contributed to his decision.
He told Herald Sport: 'I was thinking things over but the factors that led me to make my decision in the summer remained. Then there was the reaction to what I said last week. It was already turning into a circus. I thought to myself 'Can you imagine what this will be like if I did decide to go back?'
'That is the last thing the Scotland team needs. They have two massive games coming up and need no distractions or side-shows. It would have been about me, when the team is the most important thing. It's just not the best move for either party.
'So I will stay retired. It's completely my call, I need to make the decision I feel is right.
'I want to draw a line under this now, as I am sure people are getting a bit tired of it all. I wish Craig and the players all the best for the rest of the qualification campaign.'
