'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hleb Needs To Impress.

Alex McLeish says there is no reason why Alexander Hleb could not do enough between now and the end of his loan spell to earn himself a permanent contract.

The midfielder has not exactly set the world alight with some of his performances since joining Blues on-loan, due to his ability to keep picking up injuries.

Hleb could make his return to the side in this weekend`s FA Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday and has the chance to book himself a place in the side for the Wembley clash with Arsenal.

He could then go on to earn a new contract.

'Everybody knows what Alex can do when he's at the right level,' McLeish told the Daily Star.

'It's not crunch time for him - he still has plenty of time to impress.

'But there's no point talking about what might happen next season.

'If Alex can produce some of his magic in one game then he can be worth his weight in gold now.'
