McLeish Pleased With Battling Point

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish spoke to the media after the game with Everton at Goodison last night and declared the point to be the result of a battling performance.

Blues got off to a great start against Everton when Jean Beausejour headed home on 17 minutes, but the home side fought back and John Heitinga levelled the score 10 minutes before the break.

Then Birmingham had to dig deep into their resilience to hold out for a pint that lifted them out of the drop zone.

'I think that is an apt way to describe it - a battling point,' McLeish said.

'We started very brightly and got the opening goal. Then the players showed that tremendous resilience that they have.

'We tried to be a little bit more predatory, but we never really had the composure in terms of the passing in the second half.

'But sometimes you need to get points in an ugly fashion.'
