Phillips Could Be Given Starting Role At Blackburn

Blues manager Alex McLeish has dropped a little hint that veteran striker Kevin Phillips could be in for a starting role at Ewood Park this weekend.

Phillips` display against Bolton last week was described as brilliant by McLeish after the 37 year old had helped Blues to a 2-1 win over the Trotters.

Phillips set Birmingham on their way with a goal after just four minutes, causing McLeish to admit that he could well have a major part in their run in to the end of the season.

McLeish said: 'We did speak in January about more minutes for him and maybe I can look back and say 'could I have used him more in the first half of the season?' We did it for the right reasons - maybe I could have.

'He's a just a genius in the box. I've kept saying, even since the start of the season, that in terms of technique he is still the top forward at the club.'
