Hughton Delighted With First Win

Birmingham manager Chris Hughton was pleased to see his side get off to a winning start on their home games after beating Coventry City 1-0 on Saturday.

After going down to Derby County last week, a win over Coventry was just the tonic for Hughton who knows he has a hard job on his hands to get City back into the Premier League

Scottish striker Adam Rooney was introduced in the second half, and Hughton was in no doubt that the strikers efforts played a massive part in the win, he even teed up midfielder Keith Fahey who scored the Blues goal.

Hughton Said: 'It was very nice to collect the three points but importantly we have two tough away and that is why we had to beat Coventry,' said Hughton.

'Over the 90 minutes I thought we deserved the win and sending on Adam Rooney was a game-changing move.

'I thought he came on and displayed a lot of energy and certainly changed the game for us.

'Rooney is a lad who scored a lot of goals in Scotland but with our three strikers out of action he has had a lot of responsibility from day one in pre-season.'

Could have been behind first half but cov are pants in front of goal. 2nd half big imrovement and we got the all important goal. Even though first half was not that good you could still see the CH vision of trying to play football and be creative and attacking, that bodes well. There was no booing whatsoever from Tilton block 11 and nor should there have been from anywhere else.!!! No more Mcjudas negativity. There is a light at the end of the tunnell and when we have more striking options I am hopeful that we will move in the right direction.
Mr Parker
Beausajour did not look that interested maybe he is unsettled and not happy. Mutch is going to be a good player for us, Gomis has good vision. I think we lacked a Striker who can get goals, Rooney may had been prolific in the SPL but 50% of the teams in that League are not even League 1 standard. He is however a clever hard working player, its a pitty that when we had Garry O'Connor that he never had Rooneys extra yard of pace and mobility as well as staminia. I think Rooney will improve but we cant put all our hopes on him gettting the goals. I think we should be looking at trying to get SEB off Wolves on loan even if till January but i do fear that in order to do that we first have to see Zigic and Jerome leave as we dont have cash for any loan fees.
