Hughton Wants To Keep Carling Cup

Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton says that his side won`t be letting go of the Carling Cup that easily, even though they face a daunting trip to Manchester City on Wednesday.

Things are a lot different now at St Andrews since winning the Cup in February. Half the squad is missing, there has been a relegation and a new manager has been installed after Alex McLeish walked out on the club.

But even though Hughton would be keen to hang onto the Cup, there is the league and Europa to think about.

"Our main priority is the Championship and doing as well as we can in that, but we know what the cup competitions mean to the club and the supporters," Hughton said.

"It's impossible to go into any game and not want to win it, whatever problems that can cause regarding fixtures. I don't think there's any game you can go into and not want to win.

"We don't want to relinquish the trophy lightly, it will be a tough ask going there (to Manchester City), but it's impossible to not look forward to the challenge."
