Poyet Pleased With Point

Brighton boss Gus Poyet left St Andrews on Saturday afternoon quite content with the point that his side had just earned against Birmingham City.

The two sides played out something of a bore draw but Poyet was pleased with the way his side handled themselves and not only was the point most welcome, but he said that his side had put in an excellent display, unlike previous weeks.

He said: 'We were as close to a win as we have been in recent games.

'We need that break to change this indifferent run but I have to be pleased with a point.

'It is a good result at Birmingham as they had won their last six games.

'When their confidence is so high you expect the home team to run over you. The first idea was to calm things down and defend well.

'Slowly we had a chance of pulling off a win with them playing so many games of late. Perhaps they would become a little tired and we would have a chance in the last 20 minutes.

'We put the three strikers together and tried to go and win the game. We nearly got it and Mackail-Smith had possibly the best chance of the game."
