Hughton Backs Butland For Bright Future
Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton has backed young goalkeeper Jack Butland to be pushing for a first team place in the new season.
Butland received a call-up to the England squad for Euro 2012 after third-choice Norwich keeper John Ruddy broke his finger in a training session.
The 19-year-old has yet to break into the Blues first team, but he has done a good job while on loan at Cheltenham Town this season, helping to get them to the league two play-off final.
Now Hughton believes that he will be able to make the step up and stake a claim for first team football next season, especially with West Brom wanting to buy Ben Foster.
He told Birmingham Mail: 'We certainly see a role here for Jack and we certainly see someone who is capable of challenging for the number one spot.
'But that, of course, will be decided around everything else that happens here and the goalkeeping situation.
'We are all aware the situation revolves around Ben Foster and, at this moment, I don't know when that will be resolved.'
