Coventry Knock Blues Out Of League Cup

Coventry City out of their way as they reached the third round of the League Cup after extra time at the Ricoh Arena.

An exciting first half saw a couple of goals for each side, with one of Blues new boys Peter Lovenkrands opening the scoring after just four minutes.

Coventry were level on 20 minutes and ahead after 22 with a fantastic spell which saw Cody McDonald and Kevin Kilbane both score, with Kilbane assisting for McDonald's goal.

Birmingham were level again just a minute before the break, this time Jonathan Spector scored from Morgaro Gomis's assist.

The second half saw chances but no more goals as the game went into extra time.

It was the home side who took advantage just seven minutes into the first period with Carl Baker netting the winner.
