Davies Brace Wins It For City

Curtis Davies was on form to win the game for Birmingham City on Boxing Day against Barnsley at Oakwell.

The defender was on hand to put Blues into the lead in the 35th minute in conditions that you would not walk your dog out in. He nodded home at the far post after being left unmarked from a set piece.

But the visitors were not in front for very long as Barnsley exposed just how weak City are at the back straight from the re-start. Dawson saw an effort blocked and Blues could not get the ball clear, that ball broke for Greening who fired home a low shot from distance to level matters.

Blues were second best in many areas of the game and Barnsley could have had a good lead had they not been so wasteful with the chances that came their way.

The man who got four goals for the Tykes when they were at St Andrews earlier in the season, Craig Davies, was the biggest culprit when he fired a penalty over the crossbar on 73 minutes.

But Blues wrapped up the points when Davies grabbed his second of the game on 77 minutes, heading home his fourth goal in six games.
