Elliott Comes To Blues Rescue

Elliott Comes To Blues Rescue

Wade Elliott came up with a stoppage time strike that gave Birmingham a share of the points in a 1-1 draw at Charlton on Saturday.

The game had looked to be lost when Yann Kermorgant put the addicks ahead in the 88th minute, but Elliott had other ideas and helped bring this game to a dramatic end.

A poor playing service had affected both clubs throughout the game and the standard of football was not particularly high.

Early in the game there were chances for Chris Burke and Elliott, but both put their efforts over the crossbar.

Then the home side had the chance to go in front but Blues were helped by a deflection when a well worked free kick from Johnnie Jackson set up Dale Stephens.

In the second half Ben Hamer was called into action to stop and effort from Rob Hall.

Then Jack Butland showed just why he is hot property when he somehow stopped an effort from Wagstaff at point blank range and then prevented the ball going into the net from Curtis Davies, saving him the embarrassment of an own goal.

And just when it looked like the game was heading for a stalemate Chris Solly sent over a cross from the right and Kermorgant beat Butland with a precise header.

Then deep into injury time Burke fired the ball into the area across the floor and Elliott turned it home sending the travelling Blues fans wild.
