Chris Powell Applauds Jack Butland

Charlton manager Chris Powell admitted that he admired the skill of Blues on loan keeper Jack Butland after he made several saves that kept Charlton at bay on Saturday.

The 19 year old is now the property of Stoke who own the youngster after a £3.3 transfer deadline day move, he is at Blues until at least the end of the season and showed Charlton why he is tipped to be England's number one.

Butland worked hard and managed to keep Charlton goalless until the 88th minute when he was finally beaten by a Kermorgant header.

Blues managed to equalise in stoppage time but had it not been for a couple of great save by Butland, Charlton could have been well ahead.

Ricardo Fuller, Johnnie Jackson and Lawrie Wilson were all denied by Butland and Scott Wagstaff had a couple of chances saved by the keeper.

"We came across a keeper who was in imperious form," Powell told the London Press after the game.

"He made some really good saves and you could see why he has gone to the Premier League.

"Fair play to him because you can see why so many people have been looking at him and why he has been bought by Stoke. His decision making and some of his saves were excellent, that kept them in with a chance and sadly so it proved.'

imperious?....... Do you even think he knows what that word means, its not something used every day by the likes of your average thick football manager
