'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bruce Calls For Support

Steve Bruce has issued a rallying cry ahead of tonights match against Norwich.

Bruce has also admitted that he knows he us under pressure from some sections of the St Andrews crowd (quick isn't he) following our mixed start to the season.

He is now again, calling on the fans for support.

'This is a rallying cry for the supporters to get behind the new team.

'I can understand their feelings towards me or team of old but this is a new young team which needs their support.

'If the team ever needed the supporters' help then it's tonight against Norwich.

'With the likes of Kelly, Muamba, Sadler, Kilkenny, Jerome, Larsson and McSheffrey they are all young and will I'm sure serve the club brilliantly over the years.

'But we need that support to be transferred to them now.

'I knew in the summer how difficult it was going to be.

'I wanted to build a new team and personally I think we're really close to having a decent side.

'It's big game for Peter with it being his first game in charge, but equally for myself in terms of the results over the last couple of weeks.

'I'm not worried about the reception I'll get because the vast majority of the support has been fantastic.

'I can understand the disappointment from the hangover of last season and I knew this was going to be the most difficult part of when you get relegated.

'Understandably everybody is disappointed - the players, the staff and most of all the supporters.

'But we need to stay strong and dig in and show what we're about and come out the other end fighting. We have to go about the job and make sure we get the right result.

'Three weeks ago we were top of the league. It hasn't gone so well for us since then, but every team no matter who they are goes through it.

'We haven't won in four games but we've been close to winning all four of them.

'We conceded three goals in the last ten minutes against Luton, Leeds and Leicester. If they hadn't gone in we might have another five points and be sitting in second place in the table.

'We now just need a result to kick start us on again starting tonight.'

Maybe instead of asking the fans to show their support (which they do despite the financial cost of doing so) Bruce could maybe show his support for the fans by getting the team to play some decent and attractive football whilst picking up wins - that will get him a lot more support than whinging about wanting support ever will.
