Hancox is Confident

Mitch Hancox has been speaking at the club shop when he was meeting fans and here is a roundup of what was printed in the Birmingham Mail. He says the players are significantly different from last year and Birmingham have a new way of playing.

The young left-sided defender explained that the players have learnt from last year, well the players that are still here. If it were the same group of players then this could hope less promise, but since there has been so many new additions to the players that remain this may actually be a benefit for Blues this season.

"It was so hard, especially being a fan as well, seeing the club in that position. Not nice to see at all."

Mitch also said Blues now have a different style of play, Donaldson and Thomas offer pace to get in behind; Cotterill and Duffy offer tricky wing play to get down the sides. Although, he said, they don`t always try and beat their man so they do play it simple and bring others into play.

Given the outlets we have this year, Blues may change in terms of how they threaten other teams but it`s too soon to say whether they will increase the threat they hold to other teams.

"I think we have got a lot of alternatives so that we can do really well."

What will be exciting is the added pace up front that Blues haven`t had for a while now. Instead of Burke there will be Cotterill and/or Duffy, but now the front line will match the pace and possibly spearhead the attack instead of following up into the box.

I prefer to have at least one quick striker, it can prevent teams coming too high up the pitch and really pressing you into periods of pressure and it offers a more effective counter-attack when teams do come forward, something really important in the modern game.

What will help the team is confidence and all of the players who have given interviews have plenty of it. They believe in themselves, the team and importantly the manager. A good starting point to go and get some points.
