Watson Praises Youngsters
Blues assistant manager Steve Watson has been speaking about Blues academy graduates Damarai Gray and Reece Brown. The two young midfielders have been deployed throughout pre-season with the first team.
Watson said they have improved from last season and done what all good young players need to do and that is to take on board things they have been advised about on and off the pitch.
Gray is set to be used out wide if he gets in the first team for competitive games. Reece Brown is a central midfielder but Watson pointed out Brown is comfortable on the wings.
'They have been a real credit and taken on board things we told them last season.
And, you know, they are pushing the two lads we played on Saturday at Kidderminster, the lads we brought in who are a bit more senior, Mark Duffy and David Cotterill.'
Birmingham are going to continue to manage the two lads as footballers and professionals, says Watson. He believes that is what the club have a duty to do.
They also have been told to work on their off the ball abilities in order to progress through into the more senior form of the game. The assistant boss said that those aspects of the game are often over looked at younger levels.
It is clear the two are making heavy impressions on the coaching staff and Lee Clark. They have one remaining friendly left to convince the manager that they are Championship material for this coming season; Blues play Inverness this Saturday.
