David Edgar Admits to First Game Nerves

David Edgar has said that the Middlesbrough game is not the one to judge Birmingham City by. The Canadian international has said that the standards set in pre-season are the ones to go by.

" I don`t think we were on the front foot and up to the standards, the mark we set, in pre-season."

Edgar said Blues have been defending well in pre-season and have the attacking talent to go and hurt teams. He is referring to the one goal conceded during the warm up games and new additions like Wes Thomas and Clayton Donaldson.

"But we didn`t do ourselves justice after the pre-season we have had and it just makes tonight an even bigger game now."

Birmingham play Cambridge United in the Capital One Cup, eager to show their attacking talents to the fans once more.

Edgar admitted to being nervous on the opening day but did not know where it had came from after such freedom before starting the season.

The Blues defender also complained that the first goal for Middlesbrough was a foul. Daniel Ayala headed Middlesbrough in front after a period of extended pressure lead to a corner.

" At set-pieces, they weren`t really hurting us up until that point, we were well in the game."

Edgar also went on to claim Blues need to make their own chances in games if they are to have any joy in the coming fixtures.

Birmingham take on Brighton next in the league, hoping to end the terrible home run that almost relegated Blues to League One.

"It is just about playing our football and if we can get the win ...there doesn`t seem to be a feeling in the camp that that home pressure is on us.

Edgar said there is more pressure on them to win because they lost their first game. That would seem to be more on the player`s minds rather than the home record of last season.

Birmingham`s David Edgar is now being deployed in a holding midfield role by manager Lee Clark. Edgar will be hoping he can help improve Birmingham`s fortunes having signed from promoted Burnley this summer.
