Larsson Will Play in The Middle

Seb Larsson will return to St Andrews on Wednesday in a central midfield role as opposed to the wide midfielder he once was. The Former Birmingham man moved to the Stadium of Light in 2011 following Blues relegation from the Premier League.

Larsson played right midfield at Birmingham and before that at Arsenal. He has wonderful ball delivery and a work rate that allows him to get up and down the sides. A defender`s dream almost, as he would be available to help out defensively.

Not anymore though, Poyet has revealed that he sees Larsson as a central midfielder, that work rate and determination allow him to remain effective and still maintain his quality on the pall whilst pressing the other team.

Poyet to the Sunderland Echo "The problem with putting Seb out wide is you do it for a quality delivery, like the Bentleys and Beckhams.

Physically, he is one of the best at the club - if not the best - in terms of a player who can press all day long.

I think he`s comfortable there and enjoying it."

Larsson was awarded a new contract last season when many at Sunderland were shipped out. Further confirming that he was to be an important part of Gus Poyet`s plans. Sebastian Larsson initially joined Birmingham City on loan before signing for £1m in January 2007. He made 184 league appearances scoring 19 goals.
