Poyet: You're Asking A Lot

Poyet: You're Asking A Lot

Gus Poyet has spoken about what the Sunderland fans expect about his team`s cup run this time out.

Sunderland narrowly avoided relegation when Poyet first took over and he seems to view that as their greatest achievement. But the manager has realised that the fans talk about the loss at Wembley more than their survival miracle.

Poyet speaking on

"its incredible what people have been saying to me during the summer.

They talk more about Wembley when we lost than about the miracle when we won. I don`t get it!

Normally its 20 years (between cup finals) so we`re going for two in a row. You`re asking for a lot but we`ll try."

Sunderland get their cup run underway against a spirited Birmingham City at St Andrews tonight. The Blues have been victorious in cups in their recent history with a Carling Cup win in 2011 and a Worthing Cup final appearance. In addition to those plenty of quarter final and the odd semi on their books as well.

Just last year Blues dumped out Champions Swansea. Poyet`s men will have to see off a dangerous Blues to reach their goals of another final. Being a division higher should tell you all you need to know about the gap in quality that should be on show tonight at St Andrews.
