Coleman Was on Birmingham Radar

Seamus Coleman was once a target of Birmingham City before Everton convinced him to sign for them instead.

Birmingham were in the Market for a right back in 2009 and had turned their interest to Seamus Coleman. The then 20 year old opted to sign for David Moyes' Everton.

This story can be added to a long line of nearly signings that Birmingham have almost made over the past five years. Gareth Bale was the subject of a £3 million move to St Andrews. This summer we learned that Blues attempted to get James Rodriguez before signing Christian Benitez.

Blues were in a move different position back in 2009, a team comfortable in the Premier League or often being promoted to the top division. Now the club only seek to sign players with very small price tags, as Coleman had back then.

Coleman is now playing regularly in the Premier League and topping the statistics so far in his career. For example his pass completion rate is 88.5% the highest of any Everton player.

Birmingham's current right backs are Neal Eardley and Jonathan Spector this season. Paul Caddis also plays in that position but seems to have been moved into midfield at this stage in the season. Blues take on Leeds in their next home fixture.
