Peter Pannu Leaves After Five Years

Peter Pannu Leaves After Five Years

By James Burch

It will come as a great relief to Birmingham fans that acting-chairman Peter Pannu yesterday left the club after a troubled five years. It was announced by the club that his contract would not be released for the sixth year, meaning the man who came to the club as part of Carson Yeung`s team in 2009 will no longer have any say in the comings and goings at St. Andrews.

The club has been dragged through mud since the disgraced chairman Yeung was sent to prison for money laundering and many believed that since Pannu took over in his temporary role he has been selling the clubs prized assets and making cuts to line his own pockets without putting any funds back into the club for transfers to help Lee Clarks side in the league.

This now leaves Panos Pavlakis as the man to call the shots in the board and for the time being, until Birmingham can find permanent new buyers, this has to be seen as a positive step forward. Pavlakis has built up a good rapport with Clark and his back room staff and according to the Birmingham Mail he watches the players train at the Wast Hills training complex at least once a week.

The Greek 37 year old has been a financial expert for many years, He has links to Hong Kong but works mainly in London and until new buyers can come in he is seen as someone that can stabilise the club and look for new investment.

The last potential takeover talk came last month when ex-Swindon Town Chairman Peter Day and his consortium were willing to offer £30 million to secure ownership of the club but since then talks have gone quiet and fans of Blues are still waiting to see who next will be taking over.

To cut it short these last five years haven`t been the best for Peter Pannu and in his final years he spent his time away from the city, some say due to the hostility that had built up between him and the fans of the club. The main frustration from fans is that we have gone from Carling Cup winners three years ago with an established squad to a side that survived from relegation by the thinnest of margins but finally things may be looking up for the club.
