'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No Pressure To Sell Upson

Steve Bruce has reiterated that he is under no pressure or rush to sell defender Matthew Upson.

Upson has refused so far to sign a contract extension and Blues are in the uncomfortable position of knowing that in 18 months he can move for free.

Bruce believes that Upson will tie up his future if Blues can win promotion back to the Premiership at the first time of asking, which makes me wonder if we want to keep a player who won't repay our loyalty during his injury.

Speaking on the official site, Bruce said:

'I'm not expecting any movement with Upson in January, but you never know.

'We've still got three windows, January, next summer and then next Christmas and in football that is a lifetime and anything can happen.

'I don't want to sell anybody, however I've got to be wary of the fact that if I'm doing my job properly I'm not going to let a player like Upson just drift out of contract or you lose all that money, which is bad management.

'If we get promotion he might think differently about staying.

'The way he conducted his contract negotiatinos and the way he's come through his injury and got himself in shape shows what a top professional he is in everything he does.

'Of course it's his prerogative to leave his contract, but I know whatever the situatino he would never give less than 100 per cent for us.'
