Birmingham City: Goal of the Season - Part One
Never let it be said that Birmingham City let a season peter out. The 2016/17 season started with such high hopes and ends with Blues fighting for their Championship lives. We all know the main reasons why this happened so I won`t go over old ground.
This is day one of the Vital Blues end of season accolades. I will be sharing with you my 'goal of the season`
Blues` struggles in front of goal have been paramount to their problems this season. Under Gary Rowett, the team seemed to do just about enough, under Gianfranco Zola, the team couldn`t hit a cow`s arse with a banjo.
There has been the odd cracker though. Kerim`s Frei`s free kick at Rotherham, for example. But for me, there can only be one winner.
David Davis vs Aston Villa - St. Andrews, 30 October 2016
In the heat of the derby battle, Davis seems to come into his own. After trailing through a Gary Gardner goal, Blues dominated proceedings. Then 19 minutes from time, David Cotterill`s cut back is parried by Villa keeper Perluigi Gollini. Davis picks up the second ball on the edge of the box and smashes a beauty into the bottom corner.
It was the least Blues deserved - in fact, they can count themselves a tad unlucky to only come away with a share of the spoils.
