Birmingham City: Goal of the Season - Part Two
It`s day two of Vital Blues end of season accolades and it`s my turn to share with you my 'goal of the season`.
Unfortunately for me, my first choice of David Davis` equaliser against Villa has been snapped up in Part One so the goal I am putting forward is perhaps the best technical goal of the season.
We haven't got many great goals to choose from this campaign but the one that stands out above all the others is our most recent one.
Kerim Frei vs Rotherham United - New York Stadium, 14 April 2017
This is fresh in all of our minds. It was a goal that sent the 2,600 Blues fans in the away end bonkers. The team were drawing 0-0 with already relegated Rotherham on Good Friday when Kerim Frei was introduced.
Just under 20 minutes after his arrival on the pitch, he broke the deadlock and in some style.
Blues won a free kick around 10 yards outside the penalty area, central of the goal. Frei moved Craig Gardner to one side and glared at the goal. He stepped up and arrowed a dipping strike over the wall and into the back of the net, giving the keeper no chance.
It was as good of a free kick that I had ever seen live and the 'knuckleball` technique used to get it up and over the wall was executed perfectly.
It was a goal that deserved to win any game but unfortunately Rotherham equalised in the 85th minute as Blues had to settle for a point in what proved to be Gianfranco Zola`s penultimate game as Blues manager.
