'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bad Day At The Office Again

Steve Bruce has bemoaned last nights result and called it 'a horrible night' as we went down 3-1 to Southend.

Following on from our Cup exit the last thing we needed was to lose our next league match, after waiting so long to play one.

Speaking after the match Bruce said:

'We've had a horrible night after starting so brightly. We went ahead and then Gary McSheffrey had a blatant penalty turned down.

'But we gave away a calamitous goal for their equaliser and from then the fans became nervous and on edge. We huffed and puffed but weren't convincing.

'We have to handle things better than we did tonight. Individually and collectively we fell way short of the standards we have set in the past.

'You need quite a few people to perform if you are going to get positive results and I can't think of anyone who did that. If we thought we were going to swan away with the league and be big time Charlies then it isn't going to happen.'

Blues are now 6 points adrift of leaders Derby but do have games in hand so it's not as awful a New Year run as it looks to be honest. We have to get back to winning ways though and make this loss a blip on the road to promotion and not the start of a horrific run.
