Transfer round-up: Dijks move hits stumbling block

Transfer round-up: Dijks move hits stumbling block

Birmingham City have returned from their pre-season training camp in Austria where they spent a week training, played two friendlies and even made a signing!

Cheikh N`Doye joined the club on Friday morning as Harry Redknapp made the 31-year-old midfielder his third acquisition of the summer.

There have been a few bits and pieces floating around in the past few days, so here`s the latest Blues transfer news.

Mitchell Dijks

Reports in the Dutch press are suggesting that this deal is dead in the water. A €3m deal was on the table for the left back but the stumbling block is the players wage demands, with Blues unwilling to meet them. It`s clear that Redknapp is keen on strengthening the left back berth so he may well move onto a different target.

Stewart Downing

Told he can leave on a free by Middlesbrough, Blues are clearly interested in a deal to bring the former Villa man to St. Andrew`s. Redknapp is likely to hold talks with the player but faces competition from clubs in La Liga. The link hasn't proved popular with Blues fans - especially as it seems that Kerim Frei looks to be the player to be making way for the 32-year-old.

Six new faces?

Redknapp has been quoted in saying that SIX players could still arrive at the club this summer. The Blues boss is meeting with two targets today and clearly feels that this current squad needs a complete overhaul before we stand any chance of challenging for promotion. Six more new faces would mean a total of nine players would've signed for the club this summer, which hints that a fair few could be on their way out.

The old guard

Reports suggest that Ashley Cole would consider a move to Blues and Robbie Keane is expected to begin talks with the club this week. Personally, I could see these deals happening as Redknapp is obviously very keen on bringing in players who have been there and done it in their career.

My problem with buying all older players is the fact of if we get in trouble there will be no butland , Gray .Redmond ,Sutch to sell to get us out of it .....and and there will be not a lot of asset growth ....the money we have to spend will be gone . .

Mitchell Dijks would be an excellent signing however greed is his agenda so please move on Harry.Keane and Cole would be great additions bringing with them their wealth of experience, age is a worry however in Harry we trust.Keane for sure would bring goals even if he only started half the games to be played,we need a goal poacher of quality and even at his advanced age he could easily get 15+ this coming season.KRO

I don't think the club are in a position where players need to be sold. I think the old experienced blend will be good for the club short term and having a realistic pop at getting us up. In terms of money spent I would rather spend 3 million on wages for a proven player than gamble 3 million plus wages on someone who may or may not cut the cloth.

He would be a very good signing but apparently he wants 80k PW he can jog on. LOL

If he is demanding 80k a week that is ridiculous. This kid has still to prove he is top draw and until he does he has no right to be demanding such a wage.I am not convinced that he is worth anywhere like that wage.Let's be honest for a moment,he refused to re sign for Norwich, stating I believe that he would have signed for them IF they had been promoted. Please get real,if you are demanding that kind of dosh you should be a proven prolific goalscorer at the highest level,a feat he has yet to realise. As I mentioned before greed is his agenda,he would not wear our shirt with pride.I believe he would sign if his demands were met however please let us have a player with true desire to join our Club,a player with passion for a fight in the Championship. Wages of 80k are the reserve for the Premiership, reward for quality players who can deliver week in week out. Please move on Harry and get someone who really wants to wear our colours. KRO
