Transfer Talk: Initial talks held with Southampton striker

Birmingham City have reportedly held initial talks with Southampton striker Sam Gallagher about a potential loan deal, according to Sky Sports.

Sky are reporting that Blues, Aston Villa and Derby County have all held talks with the Premier League club about a possible season-long loan deal for the 19-year-old.

However, the Saints are also willing to let the teenager leave the club on a permanent deal worth up to £8 million.

Blues are in the market for a striker with manager Harry Redknapp still wanting to add to his squad so Gallagher may well be the man he is after.

Stay tuned to Vital Birmingham as we bring you more on this one as it develops.

Not heard anything about a permanent deal. Last I heard was he had signed a new contract extension and wanted to fight for his place. Pretty unlikely given the buying power so the reality is he should move on to BCFC

Highly unlikely Gallagher would choose us over many interested clubs. We haven't got the clout and sadly the player quality. However we do have an ok squad that should stave off a bottom three and we play in a league that is quite exciting littered with ex Prem.clubs.We also play Saturdays regularly at 3pm and two games per week is also exciting.Prem.football doesn't have this and it is a hard, tough demand with every gritty point a prisoner(Alec Mcleish quote). My philosophy has rapidly changed now on what I have now realised by the help of a few reliable sources. Enjoy this season, keep supporting Blues. We are stable financially, but not rich in the silly sense and will not be in the immediate near future. My best wishes to all commenters with a little mention of Le Hane, who epitomises calmness and a considered view consistently which are true qualities.

Thought provoking comments by Ohio.Perhaps we should all just enjoy our football without the yearning for the Premier League.

If he's that good go out and sign him at 19 his value will only increase.Worrying that Southampton are happy to sell him,you would think that they would hold on to prised assets for the future.? Potentially we could have a star on our hands, obviously he's not in Southampton's plans this season, whilst it could be good news if we buy him there are risks attached.I guess we have to watch and wait for developments. Villa,Derby both also have held talks with this lad,the chances of him joining us are 1 in 3 if he is to move from Southampton. Villa I hate to say it might appeal more,he has grown up in an era where they have been a constant Premier outfit,he was only 11 when we were last up there.Added to that he will be aware of all the money they have spent building over the last two seasons. One thing we have is our League Cup win which he will remember plus the attraction of playing for Harry Redknapp,a manager the whole country seems to like.We have an outside chance of something happening.
