Opinion: Blues are well on their way

Opinion: Blues are well on their way

After a very eventful Monday, with three signings being announced in one day, I now fully believe that Birmingham City are heading in the direction that Harry Redknapp has been talking about since he took over as manager.

The 70-year-old secured three loan signings yesterday in the shape of Arsenal duo Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Brammall, as well as Southampton striker Sam Gallagher.

All three signed on season-long loan deals and they were just the start of what is expected to be a very busy week in terms of transfers for Blues.

Expected to follow those three through the door are Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing, Oxford United man Marvin Johnson and Torino midfielder Afriyie Acquah.

Powerhouse Acquah is expected to be the clubs new record signing, with a fee of €9 million being thrown around and Redknapp seems very excited to get him on board.

With a potential of six, maybe even seven, new players joining the club this week, Blues are well on their way go being a club that can challenge for a place in the top six.

Yes we may not have spent £10 million on a striker like everybody wanted us to but we have gone out and spent money on players that will improve the squad.

With so many players coming in, it is now time for some of the so called dead wood to be cleared out.

As Jenkinson can play at centre back, Ryan Shotton can now complete his £3 million move to Boro.

Midfielders Stephen Gleeson and Robert Tesche are expected to be moved on, with League One side Portsmouth reportedly being interested in Gleeson.

And with Downing and Johnson coming in, it could spell the end at Blues for David Cotterill.

But with all this transfer movement, Redknapp has got to get his new boys to gel quickly, something which I believe he will be able to do and I now think results will start to pick up in the league, starting with Reading on Saturday.

Blues fans, do you agree with the editor? Are Blues now heading in the right direction? Let us know in the comment section down below!

Very excited about magic Monday.Just what was needed and Harry has been true to his word that the Burton disaster will have players leaving. What is now interesting is what formation he will go for especially upfront.

My guess is that Gallagher and Adams as the spearhead with two wide pacy midfielders.Ndoye,Davis and Gardner to fight it out for two holding spots. However this could all change by Acquah coming in.Perhaps Ndoyeand Acquah will be preferred to Gardner and Davis. Outgoings would not surprise me to see Davis and Keifenbeld plus Gleeson exit.

Be interesting to see what formation Harry plays, he said last week that he prefers 3 at the back so will he go 3-5-2 or with the 2 new strikers and Che will he opt for 3-4-3, I can't wait to find out.

Whilst it's very positive news to see these three joining us on loan, all three are very good players it's not exactly building for the future.Harry most probably will only be with us for the season if we don't get promoted,if we do pull it off then maybe he will stick around for one final go in the Premiership. Our start to the season has been fairly bad,I see many commenting that we have no chance of reaching the play off's.It's not an ideal start however we basically have been playing the same team that only just avoided the drop last season. These added players plus more to come will help our cause enormously. We must not fall too far behind, every team has a bad patch in any season,we can catch up,let's just hope the new team Redknapp is building blend together very quickly and our new strike force find the net. Good news for sure hopefully with more to come in the next few days. KRO...

Agree with Le Hane regarding Harry. However I think Steve Cotterill will eventually come in as the season ends.He keeps around the place and knows what is going on. Key to all this of course is results and the potential signing of Acquah. Trust me this is a very key issue in more ways than being just a midfield player.
