Opinion: Jack Storer must take his last chance

On Thursday afternoon Birmingham City announced that young striker Jack Storer had completed a short-term loan move to Gloucester City.

In what could be a last chance saloon for the 19-year-old striker, I am almost certain that he would have been sent there with one message...'Don't mess this up for yourself, Jack!'

The striker is well known for having a hot head, a title which he won't be proud of holding if you were to ask him about it, so I believe that he will go to the National League South side and want to impress and make it known that football is still the first thing on his mind.

It is all well and good having all the talent in the world but at the end of the day, if you don't have the right attitude then you are going to get nowhere in the world of professional football.

Storer is a fantastic striker and you only have to watch him closely in a game to realise just how much he loves the game but if he doesn't impress during his time with the non-league side then things could come to an end for him at Blues.

Of course that would be a shame to see because the teenager knows just how open the club are to giving youngsters the chance to perform on the big stage but they have to show maturity.

Look at the likes of Jack Butland, Nathan Redmond and Demarai Gray. All three of them were teenagers when they were playing week in, week out for Birmingham City and now look where they are.

One of them is a Premier League winner, one of them is a regular in the England set up and the other is one of the most technically gifted youngsters in the top flight of English football.

Blues' young forward Storer needs to look to those role models and think, if they can do it, then so can I.

This might well be your last chance to impress Jack, don't mess it up!

If he was any good he would still be with us. Forget about the bad boy image and all that.Simply not good enough.Past players like Barton,Bowyer,Mark Denis etc.if you have the talent then you play.Savage wasn't easy to handle but never put out to graze.

Storer is a bit like Reece Brown, Nile Ranger and Ravel Morrison. All very talented players but lacking the discipline to put the work in to be a professional footballer. No one is going to give it to you. You have to take it. Extremely talented and great finisher he has all the attributes apart from the mental toughness to succeed. A real shame his immaturity is going to cost him his career. We need to get a psychiatrist to sort his head so he can channel his aggression in the right way. If we can do anything to help him succeed we should but ultimately it is up to the player to put the effort in.
