Second City derby: Blues need repeat of Cardiff display

Second City derby: Blues need repeat of Cardiff display

The Second City derby is just days away and we're now all probably a little less confident going into it than we were after Steve Cotterill won his first game in charge.

The win against Cardiff gave us signs that we may just have a chance moving forward and the display included aspects that are needed in an intense derby encounter.

Blues played with high intensity, togetherness and real solidity - something that we didn't see during Saturday's pathetic defeat at Millwall.

Mark my words, if we put in that sort of display on Sunday, then we'll get rolled over.

Villa seem to have found their mojo and Steve Bruce looks to have identified the right balance for his side.

It may not necessarily be the quality of players that will win the game at St. Andrew's, but who wants it more.

On our day, we certainly have the balance in the side of those who can win us the game and those who can do the dirty work.

Blues have got to make it as ugly as the can for Villa and be the ones who are first to the ball, chase lost causes and up the tempo.

The St. Andrew's crowd will go some way to lifting the players and their confidence, but they've got to stay focused and not get over-hyped by the occasion.

Hard work goes a long way in football and I feel that the players took two steps back after their performance at The Den.

If Cotterill can instil the same sort of mentality that the team showed against Cardiff, then anything can happen on the day.

Blues and Villa may be way apart in league table positions, but come 12 noon on Sunday, it will be an equal playing field.

Bluenoses do not want to see 10 players behind the ball for half the match , we have not quite gelled enough to score a lot of goals in 90 minutes , so playing with one striker , playing with 10 men behind the ball for half the match ain't going to get us wins ..we have proven we can outplay the best let's sort out the rest ..Come on, they who dare ...

Never thought I would suggest this but SC needs to build from the front. We have,in my opinion, good attacking options but an extremely poor defence and midfield.Whichever way you juggle the back four or midfield options you end up with much of a muchness. Optimistic i must be but deep down I dread most upcoming games purely on the basis that you cannot trust our team to go out and win. However, build from the front, use what we have in the pace of Vassell and Adams and score two goals per game hoping that our defence doesn't concede more than one. This is our only hope believe me.
