Opinion: Newcastle United man just what Blues need

Opinion: Newcastle United man just what Blues need

Earlier this week Birmingham City were linked with their first rumoured transfer target in a little under two months when the Mirror Online revealed the club had sent scouts to watch Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback.

The 28-year-old has completely fallen out of favour with United manager Rafa Benitez and it is now believed that he will be allowed to leave the club in January should the right move come about for him.

Well, Blues and fellow Championship side Leeds United are thought to be interested in bringing him back into the second tier of English football and personally I feel as though it could be a good move for all parties involved.

You may be thinking, but why? We already have plenty of midfielders, we don't need any more!

Yes, you would be correct with that statement but how many of them have knowledge of how to get out of the Championship?

Granted, Maikel Kieftenbeld and Cheikh Ndoye have clearly been our best midfielders so far this season, with David Davis and Stephen Gleeson offering up small glimpses of what they can do but for me in the middle is where Blues are really lacking.

Okay, we don't have the strike force that we had at the start of the season but that is something to discuss at another time, and believe me I will be discussing it, but we lack so much creativity in midfield and it's hurting us when we trying to break.

You'd be making a fair point if you said that Colback wouldn't be adding too much creative spark to the team but I can almost guarantee he would offer more than what we have at the moment!

Blues really do need to push on the transfer window and get rid of some of the deadwood that is at the club at the moment and if that means allowing the likes of Gleeson and Jason Lowe to leave in order to bring someone like Colback in the so be it!

For me, Colback is someone that Blues really should be pressing hard to bring in.

Blues fans, do you agree? Is Jack Colback somebody you would like to see the club sign? Let us know in the comment section down below!

Perhaps your right Tom, but perhaps I am spoilt with the idea of Morrison being given another go .....

Tom.Our whole midfield assortment is a mess and needs a total overhaul.Yes, a Colback player may well be what is needed-but firstly you have to sort out the Keifenbeld situation.Does he join Derby in January or does he stay. This is a key issue. My bet is he will want to join Rowett as quickly as possible. Then there is the preferred formation of what SC wants to play.Blues as a club have never had, imo,a great midfield,so am used to the big boot upfront. There is nothing to suggest this current lot can improve on that.Colback or similar then yes,but to stay in this league (which will be a momnumental task after Wolves and Fulham) we will need to bully our way out and that means route one.
