Four strikers Blues should consider signing in January
If there is one major thing that Birmingham City have lacked in the opening 20 games of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season it has been goals.
Blues have only managed to register 10 league goals so far this season, the fourth worst goal scoring record in the top four tiers of English football, with only Premier League sides Huddersfield Town, Crystal Palace and Swansea City having scored less.
Manager Steve Cotterill revealed that he is looking for that '20-goal a season striker' that the club so desperately need but he is yet to come up trumps in his search.
Although Blues do have goal scorers in their side, not a single one of them have hit the ground running this season and there could be a number of factors to that.
It could be that none of them are familiar with the system that is being played.
It could be that they haven't gelled with the rest of the group meaning that their bond on the pitch isn't coming through as good as everyone would have liked it to.
Or it could just be that Blues simply don't create enough chances in games.
Twice now this season Blues have failed to register a single shot on target in a home game, first time round against Bolton Wanderers in a 0-0 draw and then against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 1-0 loss.
Something has to change and if Blues are going to break the bank in January they really do need to go out and get themselves a striker who isn't afraid to do the work by himself.
Here are four forwards that I think Blues should look at in the January transfer window...
1. Michael Gregoritsch - Augsburg.
Vital Birmingham reported earlier this week that Blues would be looking into the European market in January and Augsburg's top goal scorer may well be someone that they have their eye on.
23-year-old Gregoritsch has hit the ground running this season scoring seven goals in 13 Bundesliga games, meaning he is finding the back of the net once every one and a bit games, something which Blues would welcome.
At such a young age, Gregoritsch could turn out to be quite an investment if they can get him at the right price and with his current market value at around £4.5 million, he is within the remit of what Blues are looking to spend.
2. Cristhian Stuani - Girona.
Although the 31-year-old former Middlesbrough striker only left England earlier this year, his successful start to life in the top flight of Spanish football could be something that tempts Cotterill and Blues to make a move for him.
With seven goals in 12 games, Stuani has a much better goal to game ratio that the previously mentioned Gregoritsch and with him having previously played in the Championship, that could well add that extra incentive for Blues to make a move for him.
Currently valued at around £2.75 million, he could be a risk worth taking and he could prove to be the experienced head that Blues are looking for.
3. Maxi Gomez - Celta Vigo.
In his first full season in the Spanish top flight, 21-year-old Gomez really has started with him foot on the gas pedal with seven goals in 13 league appearances.
Granted his performances in Spain have probably caught the eyes of some of the bigger clubs around the world, Blues may well chance their hand and give him the opportunity to come to England before anyone else does.
Valued at a little under £4 million, he could well be a hidden gem that could turn out to be a fantastic long term investment.
4. Kelechi Iheanacho - Leicester City.
A very very VERY big long shot this one but after the admission of Claude Puel last week that he doesn't know where the striker fits into his plans, a short-term loan move away from the King Power Stadium could well be what the striker is looking for.
Everyone and his dog may well be chasing the signature of Iheanacho in January but the Blues owners have already shown how ambitious they are so what's to stop them making an audacious attempt to bring the Foxes forward to St.Andrew's.
With Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki ahead of him, Iheanacho may well fancy his chances away from the East Midlands side, but would he ever consider a move to the Championship?
Well as the saying goes...if you don't ask, you don't get!
