Three surprise departures we could see in January

Three surprise departures we could see in January

If there is one word that describes the Birmingham City squad perfectly at the moment it has to be unbalanced and with that in mind I believe there will be plenty of changes to the club this January, whether Steve Cotterill is in charge or not.

From the get go the former Bristol City manager highlighted the fact that the squad that he had inherited from former boss Harry Redknapp was much to big to keep everyone happy and it is clear to see that that is the case.

And on that basis I feel as though there may well be a few shock departures in the January transfer window with players leaving that supporters may not have expected to leave.

I am not saying that the three players below will definitely be leaving the club in January but they could potentially be seen as players that need to be taken off the books.

So, without any further hesitation, here are the three players that I think could potentially be moved on in January by Blues...

1. Jason Lowe.

This may not come as much of a shock to the supporters as the other two players on the list but let's all be honest with each other, Lowe hasn't done enough to keep himself at the club.

Granted he was ruled out for months just moments into his Birmingham City career but Blues are just forking out money for a player that they don't actually need on their books at the moment.

At the end of the day, Blues should just pay Lowe a nominal fee to cancel his contract and then his wages can be spent on a midfielder that is actually going to make a difference at the club.

I personally think it is time for Blues to cut their losses with Lowe and admit it was a mistake bringing him in.

2. Craig Gardner.

Can we all be honest once again, Gardner's move back to St.Andrew's really hasn't worked out how we all would have liked it to which is a shame because on his day the former West Bromwich Albion man is somebody who can make a real difference.

But let's face it, Gardner hasn't been up to scratch since he rejoined Blues last January and with him being injured at the moment, I would be surprised to see Blues looking at other possibilities for him.

Whether that is allowing him to move to another club or possibly moving him into a role at the club like they have done with veteran defender Paul Robinson.

Blues need to decide whether Gardner is going to help them in any way, shape or form this season because if he isn't then I am afraid we shouldn't be hanging onto him any more.

3. Emilio Nsue.

Despite being arguably one of the most attacking wing-backs in the division, Nsue has struggled to find his feet this season, a bit like the rest of the squad, and with Carl Jenkinson and Maxime Colin soon returning to fitness, he may well find his first team chances limited once again.

I am a huge fan of Nsue but he may well feel that because his chances are going to be limited that he wants to try his luck elsewhere and I wouldn't blame him for that (and for leaving the sinking ship!).

The 28-year-old has been a bit of a cult hero since he was signed by Gianfranco Zola last January but his time at the club may well now have come to an end which is disappointing.

Out of the three players suggested, I would be most gutted to see Nsue leave because I think he has always shown passion for the club, no matter what state they have been in.

Blues fans, out of the three players that have been suggested, who would you most be gutted to see leave? Are there any players that you think will leave in January? Let us know in the comment section down below!

I agree with Gardner and N'sue but Lowe (when fit) will be a useful player. David Cottrell needs to move on as does Grounds. It would be good if we could get Royse Wiggins back on loan from Bournemouth, I believe he's almost back to full fitness after getting injured playing for us against the vile last season, he really did look good in that game and might be worth another look. The priority for January though must be to bring in at least two strikers (maybe one permanent and one on loan) a creative midfielder and a winger just for starters.

I believe Nsue should be utilised as a winger. Going forward he can be a threat but his back tracking leaves a lot to be desired once colin is back they could form an excellent pairing, decent left back and striker whos gonna get service is vital to score goals and someone needs to start taking charge in the middle blues have always had success with no nonsense battling midfielders to g the rest of the squad up

Nsue - cult hero? Most people I know think he's a liability. I can't see any of these players going. Nsue should be played up front like he does for his country. I think a front 2 of Nsue and Gallagher could work well. We can play Cogley at RWB until Jenkinson or Colin return from injury.
