3 Reasons Why Birmingham Fans Now Finally Have Some Hope

3 Reasons Why Birmingham Fans Now Finally Have Some Hope

The appointment of Garry Monk looks like the right move for us considering we have been free fall over the past month or so. Something had to change or we could have been in danger of being cut adrift from teams above us in the table. At least our new manager will have 11 games to save us from the drop; many more than Harry Redknapp had last season.

There are a few reasons to be hopeful that the ex-Leeds and Middlesbrough boss can get us out of this mess:

1) His managerial record

Our new manager`s win ratio at his previous two clubs was around the 50% mark. At Leeds, he won over half of his 53 matches in charge, while at Middlesbrough that figure is 46%, having won 12 out of 26 games.

Of course, at both teams he had more resources to play with than he will have at the Blues, but even in the Premier League when he was boss of Swansea with much weaker finances than other clubs in the division, he secured an eighth place finish for the team in 2015.

2) His attention to detail

Monk is well known for giving every individual player tailor made training plans both for pre-season, and during the regular season. Every training session is recorded, and he mics himself up to even assess his own coaching performance.

Every match is assessed on the individual level with video analysis provided for every player, with assessments made for where they need to make improvements. He prizes game intelligence above all else among his squad, and don`t be shocked if they are some surprise omissions from the team, if he doesn`t believe they can do what he asks of them.

3) His experience of the Championship

He was promoted as a player with Swansea, and he was only five points away from getting Leeds into the playoffs as a coach. He knows the Championship very well, but more importantly he has had recent success in the league as a manager.

Remember too, he was sacked by Boro after winning a match with the club just outside the playoff places. It could be argued that he actually hasn`t failed in either of his past two jobs. Before his time on Teesside, he had left Leeds after deciding not to extend his contract following a disagreement with the club`s new owner Andrea Radrizzani. It looks like a bit of a coup then that the Blues have managed to snap him up.

Yes I agree totally with your assessment. I certainly have hope for good times ahead, maybe not immediately though.

Time for us all to unite again and be prepared to be patient. KRO: You're 4th reason is that the fans will get behind this manager and hopefully the players will play for him. 5th reason (hopefully) he will pay for his contract by getting full value out of the 6 million we spent on Jota.
