Butt wants to park at Blues

Nicky Butt has insisted he wants to help Blues stay in the top flight - and then sign on a permanent basis for the club.

The Newcastle loanee has a clause in his contract whereby Blues can snap up the player on a permanent deal - but this is reliant on Blues retaining their Premiership status.

Butt said: 'I would definitely like to stop here. I have enjoyed myself and there are a great bunch of lads at the club who work hard.

'The coaches and management are good and I am happy. If we can kick on, get up the table and the manager decides to keep me at the end of the season, then all well and good.

'I was happy to come to Birmingham and it still feels like the right move.'

Butt is also confident that Blues can avoid relegation:

He said: 'I think the belief is still there. It has to be if we are going to get out of this situation.

'We have got players who are more than capable of ensuring that we stay in the Premiership. But we have got to show it out on the field.'

Whilst Butt hasn't looked the player he once did, especially with the amount of wayward passes he puts in, he would still be a decent acquisition for the club, if only as a squad player. However, with the huge wages he is rumoured to be on, it may not be worth signing him purely to bump up the numbers.
