Birmingham trial Costly - reports

Honduras international striker Carlos Costly is currently on trial with Birmingham City as Alex McLeish continues to attempt to strengthen the squad during the current transfer window, according to reports.

James McFadden and David Murphy have moved to St Andrews on permanent deals - worth as much as £8.5million - while Argentinian starlet Mauro Zarate has joined on loan from Qatari-side Al-Sadd until the end of the season, but McLeish is apparently still looking to increase his attacking options

According to SkySports.com, the 25-year-old, who plays for GKS Bełchatów in Poland and has also been linked with a move to Plymouth Argyle, had been set for a trial with Leeds United before decided to attempt to prove his worth at the highest level.

A good idea or a potential Costly mistake? It's impossible to tell (which is why a trial would make sense) as the Polish league is very different from the Premier League and Honduras do not have the best track record of producing top-level players - whether they be regular internationals, as Costly, is or not.

However, it has been suggested remains that former boss Steve Bruce would have signed fellow Honduran Wilson Palacios if he had remained manager. That speculation seems to have been confirmed by the fact Bruce signed Palacios for Wigan when the player's loan spell at Birmingham expired.
