Monday 21 April
Struggling Birmingham start a spell of much dreaded home games today with Blackburn Rovers. Birmingham have not won at home in six months.
The home side have lost their last two to Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough. Last time out Clark`s men were considerably outplayed as a huge away following watched their team totally dominated in the opening 45 minutes.
Clark was left ruing his team`s poor start and questioned the way his team started the game. The fans reaction saw criticism of the team`s application and work effort. Typical of teams made up of loan signings and young players. Manager Lee Clark commented that some players feel it`s okay to just go out on the pitch and play; with that being enough. Birmingham`s league position suggests otherwise.
Whilst Blackburn are not as high as they would like to be, they are having a much better go of it than their opponents today. The Northern side are unbeaten in nine and will not be too worried about their trip to St Andrews today. Recent draws against Yeovil and Sheffield Wednesday suggest Birmingham could get something from the game should they approach it in the right way.
Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer was left frustrated as his team were held by Yeovil; a team he described as fighting for their lives. Bowyer will no doubt be reminding his players of a potential late push for the play-offs.
Birmingham lose their captain Robinson to suspension for three games starting today. Adeyemi could return to the squad today.
Birmingham have been struggling and they need a foothold in midfield in order to stop the rot. Huws could well do that for Birmingham should he have a good game.
Blackburn are waiting on injury news on Tommy Spurr with a groin injury. Gary Bowyer may also be giving nods to the returning Corry Evans and David Dunn.
Birmingham are failing to keep clean sheets this season so Blackburn's top scorer Jordan Rhodes with 24 goals could be a real problem today.
- Blues won the return fixture 3-2 at Ewood Parl
- Blues have just one clean sheet in their last 20
- Blackburn are unbeaten in nine.
Blues take on Leeds at home next Saturday.
Leeds were on a terrible run of form but they have now won their last two. Birmingham may be in better shape come Saturday if they manage a point or better today.
