Birmingham City return to action today as they face Cork City, in Ireland. The midlands team are at Fota Island resort on a pre-season training tour, this game is the only scheduled game for the side before they return to England.
John Caulfied`s Cork City have been shocking doubters this season with a huge upturn in fortunes. The team have only lost two in 18 games and are unbeaten at home. Only goal difference stands between Cork City and first place in their league.
Lee Clark will be telling his players to shed the critics of last season by proving they are a totally new side. The team has 9 new signings to pick from and they should be eager to show they are more than capable of being a good football team.
Cork City are unlikely to share the same view, City are midway through their season and in good form. Caulfied could be telling his team to go and beat an un-matchfit Birmingham City who are yet to gel together having only trained since last week.
Birmingham have no easy task to beat an in-form and confident Cork City team. The Blues may need to hit the ground running to score any goals past a resolute Cork City. Lee Clark will be eager to show that you cannot make any assumptions about his new look Birmingham City team. The match kicks off at 18:45 tonight, so you won`t miss the World Cup.
Cork City may look to rotate some of their first team as they are mid-way through their campaign.
This young full-back has been touted by many as a future star, attracting attention from various English clubs.
His manager has backed him to succeed but also was eager to cation the young man to hold his focus.
Blues have a full travelling squad to pick from. It could be the first time in a long time Neil Eardley makes an appearance for the first team.
Mitch Hancox is also set to make his comeback from injury.
Doncaster were not happy to see Duffy leave for Birmingham during this close season.
His importance to that side could mean he is set to bring plenty of talent to his new team.
- This is Blues first friendly of the season.
- Cork are unbeaten at home
- Cork have lost just two in 18
